故事发生在明朝末年，侯朝宗（冯喆 饰）是文人组织“复社”的领袖，该组织主要抨击的对象是奸臣阮大铖（韩涛 饰）。侯朝宗的刚正不阿和满腹文采吸引了青楼名妓李香君（王丹凤 饰）的注意，情投意合的两人很快就走到了一起，决定结为夫妻。
