节目召集华语乐坛来自大陆和港台不同年龄阶段的12位优秀歌手作为固定嘉宾，以我国不同年代下在大众间广为流传的音乐为演唱内容，以两大团队的比拼为竞演方式，进行主题竞演，每轮竞演还会有若干原唱歌手作为飞行嘉宾来到现场，进行原唱金曲的演绎。 节目赛制不设淘汰，以现场观众选择最喜爱的表演歌曲进入节目“时代唱片”为推进机制，通过将中华音乐发展史和百年人民的生活面貌进行不同主题切面的划分，向观众呈现中华音乐的特征样貌、时代变迁、年代特色、社会气象和风土人文，以歌声串联中华音乐的百年发展，记录国家的阔步前行，立体展现“中华音乐编年史”，在《声生不息·港乐季》和《声生不息·宝岛季》的基础上，打造完整立体的“华夏音乐三部曲”。。The Search for a lost film from the 70s takes a young man from one of South America's largest indigenous communities on an existential journey in a post-colonial film about the right to one's own image.
